The NNA is awarded for excellence in editorial cartooning for a single cartoon or body of work of up to three cartoons. Preference is given to cartoons that demonstrate humour, originality and satire related to news events, with quality embracing line, style and likenesses of personalities where relevant.
The Awards are annual prizes open to members of editorial staffs and freelancers whose work is published by Canadian daily newspapers and news wire agencies. To be eligible, an entry must have first appeared in a Canadian daily newspaper sometime between the first and last day of the year, in English or French.

Editorial cartoonists are invited to submit a maximum of two cartoons on press freedom or freedom of expression.
The event or subject of the cartoon must have taken place since 1 January of last year. If there is any text within the cartoon in a language other than English, French or Spanish, a translation must be provided. A brief description of the event or subject which inspired the cartoon may also be useful. Entrants should supply a brief biography in English or French or Spanish.

The winner will receive $1000 and be brought to Ottawa, Canada for the National Press Club's World Press Freedom Day Luncheon in May of each year.

The World Press Cartoon Competition 2008 Winners announced Portugal continues to play host to the World Press Cartoon competition in 2007. It is a prestigious International Competition, open to cartoonists from all over the world. Winners vied to place 1st (5 000 euros), 2nd (2 500 euros) and 3rd (1 000 euros) to each one of the competition categories (caricature, editorial cartoon and gag cartoon). The best overall work among the 3 categories won the Grand Prix of 20 000 euros.

UNCA and the UNITED NATIONS SOCIETY OF WRITERS & ARTISTS, in their desire to promote the highest standard of excellence in political cartoons depicting the spirit and principles of the United Nations, have established this annual political cartoon award given in the international field, and named the award after political cartoonist Ranan Lurie.
Entries for awards must be received on or before October 1, to cover work done over the course of the year, reflecting the importance of human dignity, mutual respect and friendship among nations, as well as economic and environmental responsibilities towards each other. While cartoonists may send in what ever they please, the contest does not encourage maligning member nations or their leaders. Winning cartoons will be chosen for their ability to enhance, explain and even help direct the spirit and principles of the U.N.
Entries for these awards may be made by any professional individual, and should consist of political cartoons printed in any publication published anywhere, in any language. The entry must consist of a reproduction (only reproductions will be accepted) of the cartoons, as published, with name of publication and date included, accompanied by a newspaper reprint, and translated into English. Exhibits are limited to two cartoons per individual. Reproductions must be presented measuring no larger than 9 x 12 inches.
All exhibits should include a biography and picture of entrant, and be in English. --No entry fee charged.
