| Born in Montreal in 1945 and having studied painting and graphic arts at l'École des Beaux-Arts, Serge Chapleau became an instant celebrity in Quebec in 1972 with a weekly full-colour caricature for Perspectives. He joined Montréal Matin two years later, where he did editorial cartoons until the paper folded following a long strike. After resurfacing at the very sedate Le Devoir in the mid-80s, he has been at La Presse since April 1996 and is a five-time winner of the National Newspaper Award for Editorial Cartooning -- 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003. |
